JAMIE BELL plays a voyeur who misses his dead mother in “Mister Foe,” opening soon in area theaters.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Jamie Bell is about to sit down for this interview when the past visits him with a hearty hug. It is one of the publicists who worked for him when he emerged as the dancing lad in the 2000 feel-good hit “Billy Elliot.”

“It brings so much back,” he says.

Bell is now 22, with a body of work that has shepherded him beyond adolescent breakthrough. While many actors cede control of their careers as if stuck in a cosmic pinball machine — Bell has plotted his course as much as he can.
